(Harlan, Ky) The Harlan High School Academic Team took top honors in the Region 14 Kentucky Governor’s Cup competition recently held at Breathitt County High School. The Dragons were undefeated in Quick Recall action capturing 1st place while also tying for 1st place in Future Problem Solving with Leslie County. The Green Dragons were overall winners with 28.5 points. Jackson Independent was runner-up with 19.5 points and Harlan County secured 3rd place with 16. Both Harlan and Harlan County transitioned from Region 13 to Region 14 in realignment efforts from the Kentucky Association Academic Competition (KAAS) this year to join Breathitt County, Hazard Independent, Jackson Independent, Knott County, Owsley County, Perry County, Cordia, June Buchanan, Wolfe County, Clay County, Lee County, and Leslie County in competition.
Students across the region all competed for the opportunity to advance to the State competition that will be held in Louisville, KY in mid-March.

The top five finishers in each subject area assessment will advance to the regional competition.
