Safe and Drug Free Schools

Kentucky's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program provides funding to local school districts in an effort to support substance abuse and violence reduction programming. This federal program is the primary funding source for prevention activities in these areas and provides funding to all school districts within the state. Much like the initiatives at the federal level this program seeks to prevent violence in and around schools, support programs that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs through a school and community based environment.

At Harlan Independent Schools SDFSC funds are used to support student drug testing for all eligible students. If you have questions regarding this program and the procedures for implementation please contact my office at 606-573-8700 option 6. You many also contact me via email at
